Sax Pack Headlines 2012 Festival

Sax Pack Headlines Atlanta Smooth Music Festival

May 31, 2012 – Marietta, GA. Sax Pack headlines the 5th Annual Atlanta Smooth Music Festival, on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre, in Mableton, Georgia. In addition to Sax Pack, Jeff Golub, Marc Antoine, Brian Simpson, Matt Marshak, Jeanette Harris, and Kevin Griffin will also perform.

The Sax Pack combines the musical styling of three overwhelmingly talented saxophonists: Jeff Kashiwa, Steve Cole, and Marcus Anderson. In 2004, Jeff Kashiwa called on his peers who share a passion for jazz, funk, and R&B. The result was The Sax Pack. Together they released “The Sax Pack” (2008) and “The Pack is Back” (2009) on Shanachie Records. A third release is expected soon. Between them, they have 15 solo releases. This will be The Sax Pack’s sophomore appearance at the Atlanta Smooth Music Festival, after first appearing in the inaugural year of the festival. According to the group’s website, the well-known trio is excited to create a show that combines their individual styles and diverse backgrounds for a fresh approach to the music that inspired them to all become musicians.

“For our five year anniversary, we wanted a power filled line up of headliners”, said Jazz Grooves Managing Partner, Joe Cleveland. “This year’s festival will provide smooth jazz fans an experience worthy of a five year celebration.” The Atlanta Smooth Music Festival gives fans a unique entertainment experience, with a full day of smooth jazz music, in a relaxing intimate outdoor setting. “This isn’t your run of the mill concert. It’s a boutique event, with discerning patrons who know what they want.” Cleveland said.

After each performance, artists are available for pictures and autographs. “It’s really easy to coordinate the post performance activity. We immediately escort the artists to the merchandise area.” said Lauren Cameron, Sponsor Coordinator. “We call it Merchandise Alley, because it brings everyone, vendors, artists, and fans, to a central place.” Festival souvenirs, cds, merchandise, and exhibits are centrally located to concessions.

In addition to The Sax Pack, Jeff Golub, Marc Antoine, and Brian Simpson, who are all international headliners, will also perform. “Joe wanted to do something different for the landmark year. We came up with the idea about have a super group with Jeff, Marc, and Brian.” said Steve Butler, Mighty Music Booking Agency. Even though they will perform individually, they will collaborate on some songs.

Atlantic Recording artist Jeff Golub, has no doubt played with the best, Rod Stewart, Dave Koz, and Billy Squier. After the release of his second cd eighteen years ago, Golub has been headlining ever since. In 2011, the optic nerves in both his left and right eye collapsed. The resulting loss of vision has not slowed him down. He has made adjustments and has vowed to continue doing what he does best – play music and entertain his fans.

Just as intense is Marc Antoine. George Benson once mentioned that Marc Antoine was one of his favorite guitarists. Jazz fusion clearly defines his style. Antoine has lived all over the world, Paris, London, Tokyo, Los Angeles, and now in Spain. All of this geography has influenced his music.

In between composing and being Musical Director for world renowned performers and smooth jazz signature events, Brian Simpson finds time to perform and create some music of his own. He has been influential in both jazz and R&B.

The uniqueness of the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre enhances the festival experience. The Mable House is quietly tucked away in the south Cobb community of Mableton, just outside the Atlanta city limits. Unlike many amphitheatres, the seating area is covered, parking is included, it is very accessible, and every seat has a great view of the stage. “It is truly a rain or shine venue.” Cleveland said. In addition to reserved seating, there is a VIP area with tables of six. Robbie Edwards, Technical Director said, “Nothing beats it. Guests can bring their own food and drink; enjoy a great concert, in an idyllic setting. Even the lawn seating areas is great.”

With a stellar venue like Mable House Barnes, the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel and Convention Center remains the host hotel for the festival. Reservations can be made on line at www.renaissance.com or 800.916.8592. Special group rates have been extended for festival goers.

About Jazz Grooves

There are connoisseurs and listeners. Joe Cleveland, Managing Partner is a connoisseur of contemporary jazz music. After a successful sales and marketing career in consumer food sales, Cleveland found the opportunity to share his passion with others. “People always ask me if I play an instrument or sing. Anyone who knows me would find that funny, because I don’t do either. I just know the music that I like.”

Jazz Grooves began to satisfy the needs of Atlanta’s smooth jazz fans. Realizing that smooth jazz fans had to travel outside the metro area to experience all day concerts, led the organizers to explore the possibilities of offering smooth jazz music in a festival environment. The festival features award wining national recording artists who perform around the globe. Past performers have included Fattburger, Boney James, The Rippingtons, Nick Colionne, Walter Beasley, Urban Jazz Coalition, Paul Taylor, Jackiem Joyner, Althea Rene, Gregg Karukas, Pieces of A Dream, Bob Baldwin, 480 East, Jessy J, Tom Browne, The Sax Pack, Steve Oliver, Pamela Williams, and many others.
